Weaving with Chiaki
We had a wonderful visit with Chiaki O’Brien and are very grateful for her visit to ONE Arts Studio to teach the after school art kids new weaving techniques including weaving with two colors. Chiaki also taught the students about the basic Saori principles outlined on her website: the distinction between machines and people, weaving with a happy heart, exploring with all our might, and learning as a group. Chiaki explained the meaning of the word ‘Saori,’ of Saori Weaving: ‘Sa” of Saori equates to the zen ‘Sai,’ meaning “everything has its own individual dignity” and ‘Ori’ means weaving.
